Toyota Launches the Mirai Fuel-Cell Electric Car in Japan on 15 December, 2014, and in the US and Europe in mid-2015.

ITM Power (AIM: ITM), the energy storage and clean fuel company, is pleased to note that the world's largest carmaker, Toyota, announced that it will begin selling fuel-cell electric cars in Japan on 15 December, 2014, and in the US and Europe in mid-2015.
The Toyota Mirai, which means Future in Japanese, is a ground breaking vehicle which has the cruising range of a conventional saloon, can be refuelled in less than five minutes and emits only water vapour. Hydrogen can be produced from a wide variety of primary energy sources including solar and wind power; it is easy to store; and when compressed it has a higher energy density than batteries.
Mirai uses the Toyota Fuel Cell System (TFCS), which brings together fuel cell and hybrid technologies. It includes Toyota's new proprietary fuel cell stack, which has a maximum power output of 153bhp (114kW), and high-pressure hydrogen tanks. The TFCS is more energy efficient than internal combustion engines and emits no CO(2) or pollutants when the vehicle is driven.
The biggest hurdle for fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) is a lack of hydrogen refuelling stations. To support Mirai's introduction to the US in 2016, Toyota is to supply 12 state-of-the-art hydrogen stations in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The UK Government also announced last month that it is preparing the UK for the roll-out of hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles with up to GBP11m of funding to establish an initial network of up to 15 hydrogen refuelling stations by the end of 2015 and 65 refuelling stations soon after.
Toyota are also part of the HyFive project which sees ITM Power building three refuelling stations in London ready for refuelling in Q2 2015. The aim of the HyFive (Hydrogen for Innovative Vehicles) project is to speed up the introduction hydrogen-powered cars in Europe. The group is a partnership of 15 vehicle manufacturing and energy providing businesses who are joining forces to help ensure a co-ordinated deployment of fuel cell vehicles, in conjunction with establishment of the refuelling and fuel supply infrastructure they will require. Toyota, BMW, Daimler, Honda and Hyundai will be responsible for delivering a fleet of 110 vehicles to six European cities: Bolzano, Copenhagen, Innsbruck, London, Munich and Stuttgart.
Fuel-cell electric vehicles are an important contribution to the diversification of vehicle fuels. They emit no carbon dioxide or substances harmful to the environment when driven, but still offer the convenience associated with petrol-powered vehicles. Toyota believes this technology has great potential in the development of vehicles that are kinder to the environment and ideal for helping to deliver sustainable mobility.

-- "Energy policy is forcing us to look at alternative primary energy sources to produce hydrogen. So to trigger that discussion to take place more broadly we are making our own proposal, by introducing fuel cell vehicles to the market."
-- "We have to spend money outside Japan to buy in oil and energy which means we need to use it as efficiently as possible. We need to consider other fuels for automotive use. When we look at producing hydrogen from various primary energy sources we must be ready to embrace fuel cell vehicles."

Our primary task is to provide our customers with fuel-cell cars at an affordable price."

Cooperation Agreement with ReliOn
Acta S.p.A. (AIM: ACTA), the clean energy products company is pleased to announce the signing of a wide-ranging cooperation agreement (the "Agreement") with ReliOn Inc. ("ReliOn"), one of the largest fuel cell manufacturers in the world specialising in back-up power systems for telecom, government and transportation applications. The Agreement gives Acta a broader commercial offering and a second supplier of key fuel cell components.
Today's Agreement follows the completion of a new Acta Power back-up power system incorporating ReliOn's fuel cell system, which has been designed with a 23" rack, the standard unit size for the US market. The Agreement covers the launch, promotion, production, commercialisation and distribution of the 23"-rack Acta Power HT.
As the market leader for telecom back-up power in North America, ReliOn is well positioned to partner and support the introduction of Acta's products into the US market. ReliOn will promote the new system in North America, whilst Acta will promote the system in all other markets in parallel with its FutureE / Ballard system.

Further, following receipt of these funds, the Board is pleased to announce that the suspension of the Company's shares will be lifted and trading will recommence at 8.00am on 10 May 2013.

Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited [AIM / ASX: CFU] - a leading developer of high efficiency and low emission power products for homes and other buildings - today released its interim financial results for the six months ended 31 December 2011.
Revenue for the period increased three-fold to AUD 3.3 million, from AUD 900,000 in the previous corresponding period. During the period the Company recorded sales of 67 units, a five-fold increase in sales compared to the December 2010 half year.
Cumulative orders doubled from July to December 2011 - to a total of 614 units. Orders for 100 units or more were received from distributors in Germany and The Netherlands, and from E.ON UK. The current open order book of 476 units will deliver increased revenue and cashflow in future quarters.
During the half year the Company added significantly to international sales and service channels. BlueGen distributors were appointed in key markets of Germany and The Netherlands. Local installation and service partners were trained in Europe, United Kingdom and Australia.
Ceramic Fuel Cells continues to invest in product development, and will continue to scale up for future growth. A placement and a rights issue during the half year raised AUD 16.4 million.
Ceramic Fuel Cells Managing Director Brendan Dow said recent developments in European markets had added significantly to the attractiveness of the company's products. "The German Parliament has proposed an increased feed in tariff for products like ours, and German states have announced market introduction programs. Earlier this month we stated that we welcomed the UK Government's announcement of an increase in the feed in tariff for micro power and heating products (m-CHP), which includes our BlueGen product. There is no doubt that governments the world over are seeing the benefits of distributed generation of electricity, particularly technologies like ours which significantly reduce carbon emissions."
BlueGen delivers an electrical efficiency of up to 60 percent - the highest in the world. When the heat from BlueGen is used to produce hot water, total efficiency increases to up to 85 percent. The BlueGen product is the first and currently the only fuel cell m-CHP product to receive certification under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and be eligible for the UK feed in tariff.
In November 2011 the Company signed a Manufacturing Services Memorandum of Understanding with Jabil Circuit Inc, a global electronic manufacturing service provider with 55 factories in 22 countries and annual revenue of USD 16 billion. Jabil's global cleantech business unit makes a range of energy products including solar panels, smart grid meters and wind turbines. Under the MoU, Ceramic Fuel Cells and Jabil will work together towards scaling up manufacturing volumes of Ceramic Fuel Cells' Gennex fuel cell module and BlueGen product and reducing unit costs quickly, whilst maintaining consistent quality and security of supply.

Die Zukunft der Stromgewinnung wird in einem Netzwerk dezentraler Stromerzeugung liegen, bei der Elektrizität nahe beim Verbraucher erzeugt wird. Netzwerke dezentraler Stromerzeugung sind eine Lösung für: wachsenden Strom-bedarf, Grenzen konventioneller Kraftwerke, Leistungsverluste durch Übertragungs- und Verteilungsleitungen und erhebliche Investitionen in die Infrastruktur.
Sowohl heute als auch in Zukunft ist eine sichere und hocheffiziente Stromerzeugung mit erheblich geringeren Treibhausgasemissionen notwendig. BlueGen™ ist die neueste Entwicklung in der festoxidkeramischen Brennstoffzellentechnologie (SOFC), um Elektrizität hocheffizient zu erzeugen.

BlueGen™ verwendet das hochentwickelte Gennex™ Brennstoffzellenmodul und erreicht den höchsten elektrischen Wirkungsgrad in der Welt – 60 % elektrischer Wirkungsgrad netto. Das bedeutet, dass BlueGen™ im Vergleich zu traditionellen Kleingeneratoren bei der gleichen Menge an Brennstoff erheblich mehr Elektrizität produziert.



BlueGen™ ist mit einem integrierten Wämeaustauscher ausgestattet, um die Wärme vom Brennstoffzellenmodul zurückzugewinnen. Ein separater Wassertank (nicht mitgeliefert) kann an das Gerät angeschlossen werden, um den Wirkungsgrad des Gesamtsystems weiter zu erhöhen.

BlueGen™ kann eingebaut werden als:

Wegen des hohen elektrischen Wirkungsgrades produziert BlueGen™ viel weniger Wärme als andere Stromgeneratoren. Weniger Wärme bedeutet, dass das Gerät eine hohe Jahresauslastung aufweist, und darum mehr hocheffiziente Elektrizität erzeugt, die hilft, CO2 Emissionen zu reduzieren.



Funktionalität

Das BlueGen™ - Gerät kann als alleinstehender Generator oder ferngesteuert betrieben werden. Das Ausgangsleistungsniveau kann angepaßt werden, um verschiedene Stromerzeugungsanforderungen abzudecken – von "konstanter Grundlaststrom"-Erzeugung bis zu voreingestellten "Spitzenlast"-Erzeugungsprofilen. Die verschiedenen Betriebsweisen des BlueGen™ Gerätes:

Aufheizen

• vollautomatisch unter Verwendung der Netzspannung(stromnetzunabhängige Inbetriebnahme nicht möglich)

Selbstversorgung

• Gerät produziert Eigenverbrauch, jedoch ohne Strom zu exportieren (z.B. im Fall einer ausgedehnten Stromnetzstörung)

Energieerzeugung

• Gerät exportiert Strom; Export kann von 0% bis zu 100% reguliert werden

Abkühlung

• Netzspannung verwenden (ca. 36 zu 72 Stunden zur sicheren Abkühlung)
